How to keep your stick vacuum cleaner powerful: 5 simple tips

Your stick vacuum cleaner always works best the first time you use it. But does it suck less well now? That's no reason to buy a new one right away. With a few simple actions you can often improve the suction power. Here are 5 practical tips to keep your vacuum cleaner in top shape.

1. Empty and clean the dust bin regularly

An overflowing dust bin is one of the biggest causes of reduced suction power. So empty it on time, but also clean it really well from time to time. Remove the cyclone filter from the dust bin for better cleaning. Rinse it out with water or mild soapy water, let it dry well, and you'll prevent dirt from accumulating.

2. Don't forget the filter

The filter traps fine dust and dirt - but that also means it slowly clogs up. And you'll notice that in the suction. Check in the manual how to clean the filter, and replace it at least once a year. This will keep your vacuum cleaner running smoothly and powerfully.

3. Remove hairs from the brush roll

The rotating brush in the squeegee can become clogged with hairs or threads. This makes it spin less well and does not pick up dirt as well. Take out the brush (often it's very easy), cut the bristles loose with scissors, and it spins like new again.

4. Check for blockages in the tube

Small objects such as toys, rubber bands or pieces of plastic can get stuck in the tube or hose unnoticed. This can block the airflow considerably. So check occasionally to see if anything is stuck, and remove it if so.

5. Make sure the battery is properly charged

When the battery is nearly discharged, the vacuum cleaner may suck less power. Going to do a bigger cleaning job? Then make sure you fully charge the battery first. That way you get the most out of your vacuum.

A stick vacuum cleaner is super handy, but to enjoy it for a long time, maintenance is crusial. Fortunately, it doesn't have to take much time at all. With these simple tips, your vacuum cleaner will stay powerful and reliable.

1. Empty the dust container regularly

Using the vacuum cleaner with a full container affects the suction power and may damage the filter. Therefore, empty the dust container after every cleaning. Also clean the tray occasionally with a dry cloth to prevent accumulated dirt.

2. Give the filters attention every month

The filter holds dust and dirt - affecting not only the air coming out, but also the performance of the vacuum cleaner. Knock out the filter monthly. Do you vacuum daily? Then it's smart to change the filter every six months. Check your vacuum cleaner's manual to see if the filter is washable.

3. How to take good care of your battery

A few simple habits can go a long way in extending the life of your battery:

  • Charge the battery fully before using the vacuum cleaner for the first time.
  • Never let the battery run down completely - that prevents unnecessary wear.
  • Is the battery full? Then remove it from the charger.

Do you want to be able to vacuum for a little longer without recharging in between? Then an extra battery is definitely worth considering.

4. Check for blockages

Sometimes your vacuum cleaner will unknowingly pick up something that gets stuck. Think lint, hair or small objects. This can significantly reduce the suction power. Therefore, check regularly:

  • The squeegee
  • The tube or wand
  • The filters
  • The dust container

Keeping these parts clean will keep your vacuum cleaner running smoothly and you won't have to sacrifice power.

3. Maak je filters regelmatig schoon. Dit bevordert de werking van de accu.
